At SpaMedica, double eyelid surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. Prior to surgery, the SpaMedica team, including Dr. Mulholland or Dr. Bell, will determine the best type of anesthesia and strategy to use based on a patient’s goals, concerns, previous medical history, and current prescriptions.
After the administration of anesthesia, Dr. Mulholland or Dr. Bell will make an incision in the upper eyelids. Through that incision, the doctor will create a natural-looking crease designed to make the patient’s eyes look brighter and more energetic.
Prior to your procedure, Dr. Mulholland and his team will review your medications and medical history. Based on the scope of the surgery, SpaMedica doctors may recommend that you stop taking certain medications before the surgery. It is also recommended that you avoid sunlight as much as possible in the days leading up to the surgery by using sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher. The night before surgery, patients should stop eating or drinking to ensure a quicker recovery process.
Following the procedure, it is recommended that patients sleep with their head elevated at a 45-degree angle for several days to minimize swelling. As constipation is a side effect of decreased activity, the doctors at SpaMedica recommend that patients drink fluids regularly and consider adding raw fruits to their diet. Finally, please note that double eyelid surgery will be complemented with a recommendation for SpaMedica’s home skin care, which will help support and enhance the surgical results.
